This scale looks like a very simple structure, and it is! The clever usage of torques is what makes this scale so interesting. The dots along the beam of the scale are markings of numbers which will indicate the mass of the object you are trying to measure, and the dark block of weight is hanging by a thread being looped onto the beam which can move back and forth. The plate is of course where you would put something that you would like to measure, and the 2 loops on the far right of the beam are where you can hold the beam
